We've been trying to meet new people, so one of my adverts in HA and TA is "husb/wife duo seeks to meet group of mature people to pvp with regularly" and you wouldn't believe the inane and rude comments I get back. "OMG you let your wife play?" (Hey buddy I'm the wife) to "Mature? so you want to talk about sex?" (uh, no, mature is not a measure of what crude topic you choose for discussion, rather, what you choose not to talk about). Or we get on vent/ts with these supposed "mature people" are bragging about smoking dope or start hitting on me as soon as they find out I am a woman.
I am so close to fed up. I just want to pvp as a team with people who don't want to talk about pot and sex all the time.
On a side note, I believe a huge downfall to this game is they don't charge a nominal monthly fee. At least a monthly fee would keep the kiddies out who can't do anything without mommy or daddy's credit card.
Anyway, thank you for letting me vent. Argh.

Guilds are generally a nice filter for immature players, since a lot of the better guilds onlly accept new members based on referral, and even then, put them on a probationary period. Usually, guilds who have their own ventrillo or teamspeak server are more serious about keeping immature players out, and having a good guild is a nice way to ensure that local chat can stay off. Guild groups are always fun in pvp, and when you're pve'ing, having your own guildie monks means you can easily replace rude and obnoxious players in your team. My guild has a husband and wife couple in it, and we have mostly adults, but we don't turn down kids if they're mature. Anyway, the point is, it's obviously going to be hard to find mature individuals, but you need to look for a decent guild, or better yet, make one out of your friends list. Also, you've really got to be careful how you word anything in a public message There's always gonna be at least that one person...One more thing, when you get comments like "you let your wife play guildwars", don't try to take it so seriously, it was most likely not meant to offend. Infact, I'd be willing to bet that your husband would have laughed at that one if the message were sent to him .

Well, thats exactly what we are talking about. A mature person doesn't transform in a complete idiot i'm afraid
Mature Person+ Anonimity + Audience = Mature Person , maybe a interesting one you had no idea it was there.
Agree totally with Lando Griffen in this.
I'd suggest you too to try to join a guild with very strict politics on age ( > 18 , > 25 , > 30 )and behaviour,so you can play with the security to do it in a sane and satisfiying environment . With persons that not only will behave (thats the bare minimum too many ppl doesn't even achieve) but also bring to a better and happyer gaming with them.

Hmm, Guild Wars is rated Teen, so legally speaking, kids under 13 shouldn't be playing this game at all.

Oh come on let's be realistic. You cant avoid idiots in IRL as well. Not completely. You can spend more time in isolation, but that's similiar to turning off local chan.
If you think GW is a separate space-time continuum, think again. It's not. It represents the usual population out there. Maybe with a bit more kids but nothing drastic IMO. The real difference is that, IRL u would get smacked for saying some of the things, and online you get away with it.
The same solution for GW is as in IRL. Surround yourself with people you like. That's about it. Get in better guild, or if that's not option build friends list. I will admit it's not always easy, but it can be rewarding.
One other thing i'd like to say is - adapt. Sorry but, you cannot be that sensitive. No, i dont like a lot of talks in local can as well, etc. Yes i run into many #$$#%&$ people as well. But you need to learn how to handle it, and rage-quitting is awesome solution sometimes, if it's someone in your team, or just moving on, if it's in local chan. Yes yes, sexual talk, morbid talk, immature talks of any kind, toilet humor... but move on. Ignore it. There are a lot of things i dont like, or im saddened to see, but i try not to get in depression about it haha Seriously, just as this sexual (and alike) talk frustrates you, so i am frustrated by slutty girls, selfish people in missions who run after loot jeopardizing mission after which i fail to get masters, people with attitude "but i dont like to think" (their own words btw), people who beg for money but dont want to farm themselves etc. I could make a huge list but it's pointless. So what im saying is - gather those you like around you. It works.

Not all children are immature. Im 16 but if i do talk about sex + so forth, i make sure its with my close buddies, not just rudely talk about it anywhere. Yes taht may sound like a contradiction but theres a fine difference between tact and friendly, ie not talking about inapporpiate topics outside ur close circle. I dont try to do anything online that i dont do in real life.

lol, that is so true. that's why there is so many of them in this game that always run their mouth. it's just best to ignore these obnoxious and immature people. there's plenty in guild wars, sad but true. best not try to get into an argument with them as they will keep running their mouths because they well knowingly they can get away with it online.

R3 is not hard to get with balanced hell i did it and didnt iway once, lots of spikes and balanced.
Back to the topic as was aforementioned i do believe that Monthly fees will not help in the least bit parents will still pay. Besides, some players dont want to waste there money and we would be loosing some of the best players in the game. you never know.

As a general rule, how vocal a person is in-game is inversely propotionate to their maturity level.
There a nice people out there, you just have to find them.

Besides the immaturity, I thought a lot of the population of guild wars players are +16 or 17 years old?

I'm quite sick of immature people giving my age group a bad name. I'm thirteen. Maturity is very easy to control in game because you just have to type things that aren't immature, and also having correct grammer with typing, somehow that impresses people. But there are those who really creep on my nerves from time to time. Asking about a guild a guy told me I was immature after asking my age and nothing else, interesting bit of irony going on there if you think about it. (I know this is a /rant moment, but on the topic of maturity...)
On the note of your problem, I think it's great that you have a Husband+Wife duo going, but like mentioned earlier don't say it, it invokes those annoying immature comments that you got of course. Two people looking for group is a hurdle, sometimes people don't want both those professions that you're planning on playing, or have only need of one person. My solution for pugs, if I get involved with them at all, I don't post looking for group, the people who need you will be posting LF: Professions, an active guild with mature people would be great for your situation too, but of a couple of things in PvP would be the fact that some people don't accept members over a rank:An old prejudice that has been there for a long time. And of course I have found after two months over a year of playing this game that getting a guild by no means you're getting mature people. I would say when in doubt don't even tell people that you're Husband+Wife even after you get on vent, just tell them you're two people who have each other on the friends list and are looking for a group, try not to use rl names or anything. This could cut out all the jokes, tell them as the wife that you're married so that you don't get hit on, problems with that solved.(This is for pugs, once you have some mature people you know I would guess you can be open with the knowledge)
I'm thinking that age twenty plus thing, that's a load of crap, most of the people I meet in the GW community, at least in my PvP oriented GW style, seem to be between the ages of 15~19.

A monthly fee would be the dumbest thing they could do, but I won't get into why for obvious reasons.
World of Warcraft has a monthly fee and their community is one of the worst in any online game, kids still invade it or potheads.
GW has a decent community PvE wise, and PvP there will always be aholes. It's a competiton/competetive game, people will show their anger or try to show off depending on whether they win or lose.
